Concept
To carve wood, to shave it away. That primitive act is less about making a form than a sensation of gradually finding something hidden within the wood. The human figure that emerges from the shaved-away traces is not a specific person but an image of the existence called 'human.' At the same time, it is a projection of myself appearing through the act of carving. The stacked stones placed overhead show a state of balance that is unstable yet holds. Humans, too, exist while balancing within various relationships. I hope the sculpture preserves the quiet figure of that balance while also becoming a place for viewers to gaze at their own existence.
